Rice Paper "Bacon"


This is a super easy vegan "bacon" recipe that doesn’t require long cooking times and no fancy ingredients. It's such a versatile bacon substitute and if you used to like your bacon crispy before then this is a great recipe for you. I enjoy the taste of pure fruits and veggies but it's taken me years for my taste buds to adjust to this new lifestyle and I do still enjoy including these tasty treats into my life from time to time. When transitioning into a more cruelty free, environmentally friendly and healthy lifestyle by cutting out certain foods such as processed foods, your taste buds need time to adjust to all the different flavours and this for me is when cooking becomes really fun and creative. There is something that is so fulfilling to create something that tastes great and is great for your body. This recipe for rice paper "bacon" can be added to so many dishes to give them a kick up of pure pleasure and mouth watering deliciousness such as adding it to salads, sandwiches, pizzas, pastas etc. So let’s get this party started. For your rice paper "bacon" recipe you are going to need the following:

Utensils:

Mixing bowl

Spoon

Pan or microwave

Teaspoon

Tablespoon

Prep Time: 10 Minutes

Cook Time: 10 Minutes

Ingredients:

  • 5-6 sheets of rice paper.

Basting:

  • 2 Tablespoons of soya sauce

  • 1 Teaspoon smoked paprika

  • ½ Teaspoon of crushed garlic

  • 1 Teaspoon of italian herbs

  • 1 Tablespoon balsamic vinegar

  • 1-2 Tablespoons of water

  • 1 Tablespoon of liquid smoke (optional)

Directions:

  1. Cut the rice paper into slithers that are about 3-5 cm wide.

  2. Mix the basting ingredients in a bowl.

  3. Dunk each slither of rice paper into the basting and fully submerge it to cover both sides.

  4. Depending on how you want to cook this, for an oil free version you can just place the slithers on a plate in the microwave and cook for about 3 minutes.You will will need to do this a couple of times as you don't want to over lay the slithers of rice paper.

  5. If you would like to use a pan just lightly coat it with some coconut oil and fry each side for about 2 minutes.

  6. Once cooked try not to eat it all before adding it to your BLT, Salad, Pasta or pizza.
