Home-Made Pita Breads

Updated: Apr 14, 2022

These homemade Pita breads are so quick and easy to make. With lockdown happening we've been trying to avoid all visit to the shops so its been a great time to experiment with making homemade bread and so I thought I would give Pita Breads a try and I really was blown away with how simple they are to make.

You will need:

  • Mixing bowl

  • Measuring cups and spoons

  • Oven tray

  • Rolling pin

  • 1 hour

Ingredients:

  • 3 and a 1/2cups of normal flour

  • 1 sachet of instant yeast

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water

Directions:

  1. Mix together all of your dry ingredients.

  2. Add in the wet ingredients and mix until the mixture can form a dough. You may need to play around with adding in some more water or flour until you get the right kind of dough that you can work with.

  3. Knead the dough just for a couple of minutes.

  4. Place the dough back into the mixing bowl and cover. Place the bowl in a warm place for 30 minutes to rise. What I like to do when I’m really lazy is heat up my tumble dryer bin and then turn it off and place the covered bowl in the warm bin.

  5. After 20 minutes of waiting for your dough to rise you can heat up your oven. You want it to be a really high temperature so turn it all the way up to 280 °C+

  6. Once the dough has risen, divide the dough into about 8-10 even balls.

  7. Roll them out with a rolling pin about 1cm thick.

  8. Place them on a floured baking tray for about 10-15 minutes flipping them half way when they start to turn slightly golden.

  9. Enjoy with whatever fillings you love from hummus and falafels to stews and curries or you can have them with warm peanut butter and jam 🌱
