With the colder months approaching who doesn't love a warm apple pie. With apple seasoning on the horizon this is a great cost effective recipe to make. This is actually a family secret recipe that I managed to veganise. My Mom would always make this mouth watering apple crumble for all family events when I was younger. I remember having it for Christmas, New Years and family gatherings. With the permission of my dearest Mother, she has allowed me to share this recipe with all of you and I can’t wait for you to try it! Its really easy to make, cost effective and is super tasty.
You will need:
A food processor
Time: 1 Hour
6 Tablespoons of coconut oil (not melted)
6 Tablespoons of muscovado sugar or brown sugar
12 Tablespoons of flour
4 teaspoons of cinnamon
1 Tin (400-500g) of unsweetened pie apples or 400g of pealed and boiled green apples such as Tru-Cape
Preheat oven to 180°C.
In a food processor mix the sugar, coconut oil and flour until the mixture is crumbly.
Spread the apples evenly in a baking dish and a dash of a sprinkle of cinnamon on the apples.
Spread the crumble evenly on-top of the apples.
Bake at 180°C for 45 minutes until slightly golden. Serve with your favourite side of coconut cream, vegan custard or enjoy as is.
